Substance Abuse in the Workplace
Due to the reliance by the citizens of our Community
upon the City for general safety in the provision
of City services as well as protect other City employees,
it is the policy of the City to maintain a drug
and alcohol free work environment through the use
of a substance testing program. The use of controlled
substances and other forms of substance abuse seriously
impair an employee's physical and mental health
and, thus, job performance.
The City has implemented a substance-testing program
for applicants (pre-employment) as well as testing
current employees through random selection or reasonable
suspicion. Our substance abuse program is designed
to reduce the likelihood that drug or alcohol dependent
applicants will be employed by the City and that
all our employees are fit to perform their duties.
