Engineering provides technical support to the public works and public utilities departments. As well as, reviews of water and sewer systems installed in the City and County and reviews of street and sidewalk plans inside the City. This department administrates the City's erosion control plan, Buffer and Storm Water Ordinance.

Engineering - System & Plan Review
The City of Roxboro and Person Country have a Joint Water and Sewer Extension Policy that allows for developers to extend water and /or sewer to developments in the City and in the County. All water and sewer lines extended in the County have to be approved by the Roxboro City Council and Person County Commissioners. After approval, water and sewer lines need to be designed by a Professional Engineer to City of Roxboro Standards. Plans and specification are submitted to the Engineer Department for City approval prior to submission to the State for State approval. For additional information, please contact the Public Services Department at 336-503-0489.

Erosion Control
During the construction process, soil is highly vulnerable to erosion by wind and water. Eroded soil endangers water resources by reducing water quality and causing the silt of aquatic habitat for fish and other desirable species. Eroded soil also necessitates repair of sewers and ditches and the dredging of lakes. In addition, clearing and grading during construction cause the loss of native vegetation necessary for terrestrial and aquatic habitat.
